Founded by Karl Wootton, who has over 30 years of experience in the industry, Australian Waterproofing Consultants are specialists in waterproofing and protective coatings solutions for new and long-standing structures. Our passion lies in protecting our clients’ assets, both now and into the future. 

Australian Waterproofing Consultants offer a number of services including expert witness reporting, design and specification, maintenance works and planning, technical advice and defect analysis.

Providing expert assistance and the application of the latest technologies to our clients in identifying the source and extent of potential or existing water ingress and damage to their structures. If it needs waterproof protection, Australian Waterproofing Consultants can develop a customised solution to suit any project or asset.

Our diverse clientele includes architects, engineers, builders, property managers and homeowners in both new and remedial construction that spans residential homes through to large commercial and industrial projects.

Australian Waterproofing Consultants work closely with leading industry bodies such as the Australian National Construction Code and Best Practice Methods and Benchmarking, the Australian Institute of Waterproofing, Standards Australia and ASTM International to advise on and improve the overall development of the wider waterproofing industry.

In 2020 Australian Waterproofing Consultants became a part of Infracorr Consulting, a leading specialist in remedial and corrosion engineering with expertise in all facets of durability design for buildings, bridges, wharves and industrial structures. This relationship has expanded our capability to provide innovative solutions in the design, repair and protection of private and public assets.

Karl Wootton

Founder

With a 35-year career in the waterproofing and remedial repair industry, Karl is a highly experienced specialist in the field of waterproofing systems for both new construction and remedial actions for failed waterproofing and cladding installations.

His experience spans the supply, technical specification and application of waterproofing and protective coatings as well as inspecting and auditing to designing and implementing waterproofing solutions. Having worked with stakeholders on all sides of a project to provide the highest quality service and solutions.

Karl is also an active committee member for a number of organisations including Standards Australia, ASTM International and Treasurer for the Australian Institute of Waterproofing.

Ian Godson

Director

As the Managing Director, Principal Consultant and founder of Infracorr Consulting, Ian’s expertise spans over 30 years in all aspects of infrastructure remedial engineering, including condition assessment, remedial design and cathodic protection design and installation.

Having trained under Oronzio de Nora of Milan, Italy, one of the world’s foremost manufacturers and designers of cathodic protection anodes and systems for concrete, he introduced the technology into Australia. 

Ian has published numerous papers on condition assessment and cathodic protection design and is a regular presenter at both the European Corrosion Congress and ACA annual conferences.

Dean has significant experience in both remedial engineering and materials durability design, including involvement in both the design and specification of remedial engineering works and the construction phases. 

He has been heavily involved with the condition assessment of structures and in leading the durability design for new construction projects, including 

Melbourne’s Webb Dock Wharves and assessing water and wastewater tanks and pump stations across Victoria. 

Dean has successfully presented a number of technical papers at both ACA and Young Engineers Australia events.

Sophie Favilla

Sophie began work with the Australian Waterproofing Consultants (AWC) team in 2019. Her first role was as an assistant to Senior Consultant Karl Wootton.

Sophie brings many skills to the team including:

  • problem-solving

  • organisations and documentation and;

  • strong team ethics.

Sophie is a valued member of the team and has fast established a reputation for:

  • multitasking and handling many projects at once and;

  • outstanding customer service.

Under collaboration and tutelage from senior AWC colleagues Sophie's technical skills are improving. She has developed strong skills in the following:

  • spotting and resolving many waterproofing defects and;

  • internal and external waterproofing for domestic and commercial applications.

Justin is a proven leader in the waterproofing field. He has over 17 years of experience. Justin has a passion for solving problems and goes above and beyond.

In 2005 Justin began in the waterproofing industry as a technician in New Zealand. He advanced into the roles of site foreman and then branch manager. In 2011, he started his own waterproofing business. By 2022, Justin's business was taking on major projects and had a reputation for high-end work.

In 2022, Justin moved to Melbourne and joined the Australian Waterproofing Consultants. He brings a wealth of experience to the team as Senior Technical Consultant.

Justin's knowledge in waterproofing includes:

  • domestic and commercial industrial applications

  • new designs and rectification of existing issues

  • internal and external areas and;

  • a range of waterproofing and weatherproofing installation methods.
